well, obviously your a follower, you really need"highly regarded musicians"to tell you if a guy is good or not?You idiot. So if you think wierd al yankovic sucks but a "highly regarded musician" says hes great then you change your mind?Wow,you need to start thinking for yourself man.Open your fucking mind up a little bit(i know that may be a hard thing to do since your sick mind is filled with thoughts a pre-pubescent korean boys at all times)...do you need John Madden to tell you who is a good football player?I dint say Phil Sucked on Bass,i just said that he would never be a professional musician without Garcia, meaning make a living off it.Phil and friends proves that. They suck

You're a moron if you think Phil couldn't make a living as a musician without Garcia. Is he better with him - did they push each other to be better within the context of the Grateful Dead? Undoubtedly. But I saw him with Paul Barrerre, Billy Payne and Robben Ford and it was fucking great - their version of My Favorite Things was incredible, not least due to Phil's playing. Sorry you didn't like Phil and Friends; I don't follow them or really care because I don't really want to see others playing the Garcia/Hunter songbook. Been there, done that. But I do listen to and see tons of music so I don't need someone to tell me that Willie Weeks is one of the best bassists around - I know it by seeing him. That said, when a Les Claypool (who I think knows a little something about the bass) explains to me why Larry Graham and Phil Lesh are amazing bassists, I think he may have a bit more of a fucking clue than I. Just as I think Madden might have more of an insight on what made Jim Otto special than I do from the handful of games I can recall. But then again, you ain't gonna learn what you don't want to know. It's back to unicorns, rainbows, and waterfalls for me.

BTW, how do you enjoy working the drive thru register?

"how do i enjoy working at the drive through register" Thats funny, your the guy sitting home unemployed arguing with me on a Thursday morning when you should be out working.Go change your kids diaper man,hes crying.Have a little responsibility.Matter of fact,go change your own adult diaper. You fucking filthy animal.Im sure Les Claypool is on his way over to slam some dope with you and talk about Phil,so you might want to put that kiddie porn away before he sees it.Oh yeah, you also might want to hide your kids because you wouldnt want Les to see their black eyes from the beatings that you gave them last night.

Well said...I would have offered my own opinion on Phil, but that counts for about as much as the real William Tell's...however, I have spent a lot of time on the side lines in the music biz as a roadie, wannabe, etc., and for forty years have heard nothing but praise for Phil.

Most considered him the real musical genius, and Jerry the instrumentalistic wizard, if you catch my distinction (ie, between playing well, and mastering the subject in and of itself).

well, he was the serious music student that garcia asked to learn bass to play with the band; it wasn't like he didn't have any training in composition.
